RE: Garmin - Is this to be expected?

It's something you need to think about before you buy. If it's intended to be used in a vehicle, it doesn't need a battery at all. I have second unit for hunting, etc. that uses double A's (both Garmin).

RE: We don't have an RV, the wife was right

Even a tent has to arrive at the CG in a vehicle of some kind.
I guess it is going to be a long winter, I read thru page 3 and even responded. :)

RE: Freezer smells very bad

My home freezer lost power long enough for everything to thaw, the inch of juice in the bottom probably smelled just like your bacon. I washed it out with bleach and then saved our coffee grounds in a small bucket, they absorbed the smell very well, or the smell went away on it's own and I just think the coffee grounds did it? ether way I'm happy now.
You do need to be sure you got ALL of yuk out though.

RE: Anchorage to Homer in the winter

The drive through the mountains along the Kenai river is beautiful in winter, and you can watch the eagles fishing in the river. We drive it a lot, you just need to watch the weather. I would recomend a 4WD rent car, you may not need it but it's nice to have if you do.
We usually check road conditions here.

RE: P30 cruise and speedo problem

Mine isn't a P30, but it has a sending unit on the transmission that sends an electrical signal to the speedo etc.. My sending unit for the cruise froze up and broke the cable (about 1.5 inches) between the sending unit and the trans. The unit has two stages, the bottom for the speedo, and the top for the cruise. Yours could be similar.

RE: 240 volts to the RV?

Just one more little important point about 50A 120/240Volt RVs. It is important to turn OFF the service (on CG post) breaker before connecting the RV plug. If you don't and happen to get the two hots connected before the neutral and ground make contact, you will put 240VAC across anything that is ON in the motorhome. And if you do that, you will let the smoke out.Though it is a good idea to turn the breaker off before plugging in, you need to remember that in the rig, the two 120 volt circuits are separate, so if you energize the hot before the neutral, you simply have an open circuit until the neutral is made up.

RE: Alfa Motor Home parts

There isn't a lot in a MH that is brand specific, chassis parts from the chassis Mfg., appliance parts from the appliance Mfg. and so on.

RE: onan generator post runs when starter pushed then quits

My generator does the same thing if you don't hold the start button long enough, probably 10 seconds after it's up and running, and this is normal.
This may not be your problem, but it's something you should be aware of, it could lead you to your problem.

RE: awning replacement

You need to go to an authorized dealer. you'll have to call around in your area. and I found that replacing the tube assembly with the fabric was just a little more than the fabric alone, and you get a new mechanism.

RE: 240 volts to the RV?

Bobbo and Big Katuna both nailed it! And I would be looking for a more informed service manager.
I've been plugging my 50 amp MH into 120/240 for a lot of years.

RE: Battery post corrosion - how to prevent?

They also sell felt rings that fit around the terminals anywhere they sell batteries, that eliminate corrosion.
I use the battery terminal spray, and put the rings on for good measure. I don't have any corrosion at all.

RE: Dealer will not work on toad.

I can understand it from a trouble shooting point of view. They have to find and rule out all of the modifications you made before they can even start. I've made similar mod's to mine, and would expect to at least have to prove I hadn't caused the problem.
It's the price you pay when you buy a new rig and start making changes to it.

RE: KVAR Energy Controller Electric Savings ?

az99,
If your power co isn't billing you for KVAR's (and the won't unless you are an industrial consumer), you have nothing to gain by trying to correct for them!

RE: KVAR Energy Controller Electric Savings ?

If the power co. were to bill you for residential VAR's, they wouldn't recover the cost of the meter. If it were worth the effort, you can bet they would be charging for it.

RE: Alaska- Earliest date to leave..

We stayed in Tok on the 30th of April one year, and the campground was just some slots plowed in the snow. There was power, but no water of course. The temp. was well below freezing that nite.
Not a problem finding services, they are a little further apart, but very little competition.

RE: New to leveling jacks

The only time I bother with pads is when I'm on hot asphalt or soft ground. Most of the time I remain in the driver seat until we're level and I shut the engine down (about 2 minutes +-).

RE: Blown Fuse or Blown Breaker?

If this is an old dryer outlet, it could be 220 V AC. Your TT runs on 30 amps 110 V AC. The old dryer outlets look just like the 30 AMP and your TT shore power plug will probably fit in the outlet. But if it is in fact 220 V AC, you have probably burned something up in your TT. Not good. Best to unplug the shore power and check the voltage reading with a volt meter or have an electrician check it out for you. 220 will have one neutral wire and two 110 hot wires. You only want 110 V AC, One neutral wire, one 110 wire, and one ground wire. You better hope it is 110. Good luck
The OP didn't say anything about a drier outlet. I mentioned it only for size reference.

RE: Blown Fuse or Blown Breaker?

I'm guessing the outlet is dead. large 4 prong outlet is 50 amp, 30 amp outlet looks like a drier outlet (but isn't), 3 prong, but larger than a 15 amp. Your TT is most likely 30 amp.
You need to check the outlet with a volt meter.
